The Peace Center

The Peace Center of United University Church was started as a peacemaking ministry of the church during the threat of nuclear annihilation in the late 1980s. It has continued to grow and evolve over the years, but its three groups of constituents remain – campus, community and congregation. Over the years, The Peace Center has worked on war and peace, labor issues, environmental issues, health, housing, education and many others. It continues to be a vital ministry because of people like you – find out more and join the work!

Youth Leadership Academy in Peacemaking

On Saturdays during the school year, youth ages 11-17 are invited to join the Youth Leadership Academy in Peacemaking. In addition to more fully developing their listening and conflict resolution skills, our youth organize community service projects, develop media campaigns and serve as mentors for the younger peace kids. Many of our youth go on to become interns and peace camp counselors.

Peace Camp

Peace Camp is a day camp for Children and youth ages 5-17. It runs in the middle of the summer for four weeks. Campers begin their day at 9am with a meditation circle and peace education session where they learn about peace heroes and movements from history. The afternoons are filled with crafts, games and exciting activities, all aimed at teaching peacemaking skills and self confidence. Peace Camp combines the fun of summer with the meaningful pursuit of building peace within the community and in our own lives.

Peace Kids

On Saturdays during the school year, children ages 5-10 are invited to become Peace Kids. The Peace Kids learn about different cultures and study issues related to justice and peace in the world. Lead by a dedicated staff of Peace Teachers, the kids engage creatively with the concept of peace through music, art, games, writing and other fun activities. The Peace Kids also have the opportunity to receive tutoring help from 2-3pm, after the regular day's activities are over.
