Campus Engagement

UUC’s Student Fellowship, also known as “Open Faith Community,” is a group for young adults in the USC area of Los Angeles who want to grow spiritually and reach out to the community. We’re “open” because, while we are rooted in the Christian tradition, we welcome people from all different backgrounds, with different lifestyles, beliefs and passions. We also push ourselves to be open-minded in all that we do. We explore our faith through conversation, spiritual practices, community service and scriptural study. We know that it is important to be supported and find support on this journey and so we build relationships with each other through social activities, and with the neighborhood through service projects and educational experiences. For more information contact Rev. Katherine Schofield, Minister for Campus Engagement at katherine.schofield@usc.edu.

Orchard House

Orchard House is a faith-based living community for students at the University of Southern California. Orchard House residents are from differing backgrounds of both sexes, are interested in one another, are willing to share their faith traditions with one another, set goals for the house together, and learn to care about one another. Orchard House is located at 2807 Orchard Ave, just north of the USC University Park Campus.

Interfaith Engagement

Through interfaith engagement students learn important relationship skills and develop compassion for others across lines of difference. Interfaith dialog actually strengthens our identity as Christians as we work to articulate our views and beliefs in a multi-faith setting. The Student Interfaith Council meeting on Tuesdays at 6pm in the URC.

USC Spirituality & Sexuality Program

The Office of Religious Life’s Spirituality and Sexuality program, in partnership with theLGBT Resource Center, explores the intersection of spirituality and sexuality in order to challenge stereotypes and promote reconciliation. Although issues of spirituality and sexuality are often contentious, this program identifies creative responses and innovative solutions by hosting discussions with local Los Angeles-based faith leaders, and sponsoring performance artists, film screenings, and an annual spirituality and sexuality themed retreat. Rev. Schofield is the director of this program.

Community Service

There are so many ways to get involved in the community! Whether you’d like to tutor the Peace Kids, or pack lunches for A Community Place, or go on an alternative break trip, we can help you get connected. Service is good for your soul!

Critical Lens Bible Study

We strive to find new meaning in ancient texts by using informed academic methods of study. We continually ask the questions “how is this relevant to my life today?” “What is God calling me to?”.
