Community Partners

 

Interfaith Communities United For Justice and Peace was founded in Los Angeles after 9.11 to support the work of Faith leaders from Buddhist, Christian, Islamic, Jewish and other spiritual faiths and traditions who say “Religious Communities Must Stop Blessing War and Violence…” ICUJP’s activities promote critical examination of the costs of violence and war at home and in the world from the Faith perspective. We insist on respect for human rights, international law and the use of peaceful means in the resolution of conflicts.

 

Methodist Federation for Social Action, California-Pacific Chapter where Progressive United Methodists connect with one another and turn their faith into action. MFSA works to mobilize, lead and sustain a progressive United Methodist movement, energizing people to be agents of God’s justice, peace and reconciliation.

 

Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice brings the moral power of religious communities to ensure reproductive choice through education and advocacy. The Coalition seeks to give clear voice to the reproductive issues of people of color, those living in poverty, and other underserved populations.

 

Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE) is an economic justice, community development, and popular education center that has been building economic power for working class people in Los Angeles since 1996. In particular, UUC is a member of United Neighbors in Defense Against Displacement (UNIDAD), a campaign committed to future development of South LA that includes and benefits all members of the community.

 

Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE) is one of the oldest interfaith worker justice organizations in the country. CLUE LA’s mission is to bring together clergy and lay leaders of all faiths to join low-wage workers in their struggles for justice.

 

Home for Good LA, a joint initiative of United Way of Greater Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the Business Leader’s Task Force on Homelessness is comprised of business leaders from throughout the county who have come together with a commitment to end homelessness in our region. Home for Good LA is the local branch of this task force.

 

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church For 100 years St. Mark’s Lutheran Church has been a church with a vision. The members of St. Mark’s strive to make God’s love alive in all that they do, in how they serve, in caring for each other and for all those around us, whoever they might be. St. Mark’s is a multi-church; multi-racial, multi-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-age, multi-class, even multi-denominational.

 

Dramastage-Qumran is a non-profit recovery theater company whose objective is to utilize community theater to impact the violence found in the individual, home, school and community. The goal of Dramastage-Qumran is to provide a forum for the community of Skid Row to access community theater and at the same time create a theater and Young Peoples Theatre Workshops for the many children who live in the Skid Row area.

 

New City Parish is an urban coalition of nine congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) located in Los Angeles, Inglewood, and Compton California. Focused on the transformation of our communities through holistic ministries and social outreach New City Parish (NCP) proclaims a message of hope and advocates for the poor & marginalized, to teach people how to think critically for themselves, and to heal and comfort those who are hungry and suffering in our inner-city communities.

 

T.R.U.S.T. South L.A. is a Community Land Trust established in November 2005 as a democratic and permanent steward of land, to challenge the role that speculators, absentee owners and corporations have played in deciding the neighborhoods’ future. With grant and loan funds raised from public and private sources, the Land Trust acquires land to be held in perpetuity by the community-controlled Land Trust, only to be leased for the development of affordable family housing and other community-serving uses.

 

St. Francis Center The mission of St. Francis Center is to serve homeless and near homeless families and individuals in the under-served neighborhoods of Greater Los Angeles in the manner of St. Francis of Assisi. The St. Francis Center works toward realizing each individual’s full human potential by facilitating the resolution of immediate needs and crises.

Campus Partners

 

USC Office of Religious Life sponsors a variety of opportunities for exploring the spiritual dimensions of your life and learning. They help students find a religious home base or form a new group, handle an ethical dilemma or research a paper topic. The Office sponsors campus programs with a moral, religious or spiritual focus. It co-sponsors events with other university units and partnerships of student religious groups. And they are there for the entire USC community in times of celebration and loss, to offer benedictions at university convocations and to help organize memorial services as needed.


Student Interfaith Council  USC has more student religious groups than any other university in the United States, and the Interfaith Council comprises of student leaders representing the diversity of faiths across campus. All USC students are invited to join the Interfaith Council, and to learn and share about their faith traditions from each other. The Interfaith Council sponsors interfaith events such as the Multi-Faith Celebration, Interfaith Memorial Service, and Interfaith Worship at Parent’s Weekend.

 

Canterbury USC (MiX) MiX:LA stands for Music in Christ and was created by college students to encourage worship in a way that reminds us that faith and God’s love is ever present in our daily lives. We combine a live band playing top artists with streaming video. MiX is where we hear the Gospel through artists like Sheryl Crow and 2Pac. Where we see the Gospel through visuals like O Brother Where Art Thou? and Gran Torino. But no matter the artists or the visual, MiX is where we feel, learn and live the power of the Gospel: Word, Music, Video, You and God. Make time for God through MiX.

 

El Centro Chicano was established in1972. ECC fosters a community of critically thinking, socially conscious Chicana/o and Latina/o leaders: providing personal, social and academic support through graduation and beyond.

 

Student Coalition Against Labor Exploitation (SCALE) S.C.A.L.E. is the student coalition against labor exploitation. we are a community of students, scholars, and activists working to create a socially responsible University of Southern California. Our goal is a University that acts with the highest ethical principles, fully cognizant of its role in and impact on its neighborhood, the world, and the fight for social justice.

 

USC Center for Women and Men The USC Center for Women & Men exists to facilitate the success of students, faculty and staff by providing innovative opportunities for leadership and scholarship and by offering advocacy and confidential counseling to those who have experienced gender-related harm. Through its educational programs, the Center fosters a better understanding of feminism, healthy masculinity and gender equity. Above all, The USC Center for Women & Men serves as a haven for students, staff and faculty.

 

USC LGBT Resource Center The LGBT Resource Center sponsors a wide range of academic, educational, social programs and advocacy services for the entire campus community including campus supportive Allies. The center works closely with the diverse campus undergraduate, graduate and faculty/staff LGBT organizations along with different campus departments. The center also provides resources and referrals, such as information about neighboring LGBT support services, to all campus members. Learn more about the center and its history.
